A2ZTranslate was founded in 2002. Starting off as a translation home office in Grey Lynn, Auckland, New Zealand, we soon moved to premises in High Street. From there we have moved several times as expansion required. We currently maintain an office in the Auckland CBD, but staff now work remotely.

We have in-house and contract translators working across 60 language pairs. We run the most up to date CAT software, if you don’t know what they are then just ask. In short it means we use real people translators, but manage the translation process with the most sophisticated software to remember your previous translations and recycle them into a new structure or format. 

It is important for clients to understand the difference between Translation Memory (TM) and Machine Translation (MT). 

TM is an excellent tool that we use wherever possible. TM is a human driven translation memory system. TM allocates your source text into segments (e.g. a sentence or a phrase). Once a segment is translated and finalised the TM commits this to a unique memory file. Should the same or a very similar segment appear in a source text again, the TM will suggest the stored translation to the translator for either direct reuse or customising as needed. TM helps speed up the translation process and enforces consistency in translation of terminology across files, translators and time.

MT is software driven and we use it here to include generic machine translation (such as Google Translate) and AI LLM translation (such as ChatGPT). These systems have varying degrees of accuracy, reliability and fluency. While A2ZTranslate may make use of MT where the language pair, content matter and file format render it suitable, no translation is ever despatched to a client without full human editing and proofreading. MT can help on large scale projects or to create an overview of the content, but it should never be relied upon and is never suitable for final output.
